Aaron Wilburn was an acclaimed songwriter, musician of Christian music and a well-known comedian. He started his songwriting at age 11 and first recorded them at age 15. He subsequently made his mark in Christian music in the 1970s, while collaborating with the legendary Happy Goodman family for a few years.
Aaron Wilburn was born on July 9, 1950, in Ardmore, Alabama, to Eugene and Lola Wilburn. He had three siblings, Alton Wilburn and Jackie Wilburn, and a sister, Betty Thornton.
He often goes to a neighbor’s house on Sunday mornings as he loves watching the singing performance of The Happy Goodman Family and the Florida Boys on television, for he has no television at home. According to him, his family was sharecroppers, and he worked in the fields cutting cotton, and his dad was trapping minks and muskrats to sell their furs.
When was young, he used to sing with his family in the church until he realizes the availability of professional artists at age 11 or 12. After all, his final decision was to become a songwriter, and began at 11. At age 15, one of his songwriting titled 'Modern Age of Progress' got refined which was sung by a Georgia-based gospel group, Sego Brothers and Naomi.

Wilburn pursued an unaccompanied career for over 40 years and wrote probably more than a thousand songs after leaving The Happy Goodman Family. We could categorize all his songs into Southern Gospel, Black Gospel, Country, Bluegrass, and Praise & Worship. He said that he wrote more than 1500 songs until he had an interview with Daniel J. Mount in February 2009.
Many of his hit songs were done by musician Eddie Crook. One of his famous songs, 'Four Days Late,' was co-written with his wife, Roberta. Some of his music credits include 'It Took the Blood,' 'He Said Peace,' 'Goodbye To Mercy,' 'Rock For Ages,' 'I Found Him Faithful,' 'Sometimes Miracles Hide,' and 'Who Will be Jesus.'
He became a well-known Christian Comedian, as he can blend humorous stories into his songs. Wilburn told The Augusta Chronicle that he started doing more comic songs after people always appreciated his sense of humor and asked about these songs.
During his career, Wilburn performed at numerous evangelical concerts, religious services, corporate banquets, and secular conventions throughout the United States of America. He has also showcased his talent in Canada, Mexico, and around the world. He has appeared frequently on Bill Gaither Homecoming concerts and on YouTube, which has garnered millions of views.
Wilburn won several awards and nominations during the five decades of his career. Two of his songs, 'Who Will be Jesus' and 'Sometimes Miracles Hide,' earned him the 'GMA Dove Awards,' in the early 1990s. His two other songs, 'What A Beautiful Day' and 'Four Days Late,' were voted the 'Song of The Year' at the 'Singing News Fan Awards,' in 1975 and 2001. Several of his songs topped the national radio charts and received multiple of Grammy nominations.
Wilburn was married to his wife, Roberta. They have three children, Jim Wilburn, Tyler Wilburn, and Emily Wilburn.
In May 2010, Wilburn underwent a kidney transplant and got a kidney from his sister-in-law. Following the kidney transplant, he became an ambassador for the Kidney Foundation.
Wilburn died on 27th November 2020 at the age of 70 after battling with COVID-19.
